A Christmas tree painting made with an outline, is always pretty, but a Christmas tree drawing will let students add more layers and lots of little holiday decorations. A painting of candy canes, for instance will no doubt be very colorful, but a drawing of candy canes, will allow young students to add curves their stripes so it looks more round, and maybe even a shadow or two. While painting is wonderful and certainly needs to be explored too, drawing easily allows students to add more detail to their work.
